Plenty of poses to choose from when it comes to a yoga photoshoot and todays post I’d like to share with you some of my most liked asanas and also, I explain why it’s definitely worth to include those on your next yoga photo shoot.
Each pose tells a unique story, a narrative of strength, grace, and inner peace.
1: Eagle pose – GARUNDASANA (specially eagle arms)
Eagle Pose involves the crossing of arms and legs in a way that creates visually striking shapes and lines. I love capturing the focus and determination and often ask my client to close her/his eyes as they find stillness amidst the flow of movement is a perfect opportunity to create a peaceful portrait.
2: Side lunge – SKANDASANA
This asana is embodying a sense of grounded-ness and expansiveness. I enjoy playing with angles to showcase the fluidity and strength inherent in this pose, inviting viewers to explore their own range of motion.
3: Warrior 2 – VIRABHADRASANA (with front hill up)
Warrior 2 is a timeless classic, but add a gentle lift of the heels, and you’ve got a pose that exudes power and dynamism.
4: Side plank – VSISTHANASANA
Side Plank epitomizes strength, stability, and balance. Whether the you opt for the traditional variation or adds creative variations, such as lifting a leg or reaching for the sky, the pose emanates a sense of quiet confidence. I love capturing the elegant lines and subtle shifts in weight as they hold the pose with unwavering focus.
5: Seated cross leg/Lotus – PADMASANA
There’s a timeless simplicity to the seated cross-leg or Lotus pose that never fails to inspire. Not every yogi can do the full lotus pose – including myself, but seated cross legged pose is my favourite when comes to a portrait photo of a yogi. Every yoga teacher needs a profile picture for website, networking, social media – this peaceful pose is the perfect opportunity to get your headshot done.
6: Seated forward fold – PASHCHIMOTTANASANA
Seated Forward Fold offers a moment of introspection and surrender. As the you fold forward, reaching towards your toes, your body forms a gentle arc of release, inviting viewers to witness the beauty of letting go.
7: Twisted lunge – PARIVRITTA ANJANEYASANA
Combines the grounding stability of a lunge with the cleansing twist of the torso. The dynamic interplay of opposing forces creates a sense of tension and release, capturing the essence of balance and harmony
8: Upward facing dog – URDHVA MUKHA SVANASANA
Upward Facing Dog exudes vitality and openness, with the practitioner lifting their chest and heart towards the sky. The arch of the back and extension of the arms create a visually stunning image of strength and expansiveness.
9: Triangle Pose – TRIKONASANA
Triangle Pose, offers a symphony of angles and lines. As the practitioner extends their body into a triangle shape, their limbs form a geometric masterpiece, showcasing the beauty of alignment and precision.
10: Tree pose – VRKSASANA
Tree Pose embodies a sense of rootedness and grace, as the practitioner balances on one leg while lifting the other foot to rest against the inner thigh or calf. The image of the body reaching towards the sky like the branches of a tree evokes a feeling of connection to nature and the earth.
Through my lens, I strive to capture not just the physical form of the poses, but the essence of mindfulness and presence that lies within each practitioner. Join me on this journey of exploration and discovery, as we celebrate the beauty of yoga in all its forms.
Love, Kris x
