At the start of September, I received a lovely message from Zoe, who had found me on Google while searching for a yoga photographer. We soon discovered we had something special in common—we’re both Hungarian! But what really made us click wasn’t just our nationality, it was our shared love for yoga and holistic living. After a friendly online video chat, Zoe decided to book a shoot with me. She’s recently completed her yoga teacher training in Ireland and was ready to launch her teaching career, needing professional images for her website and to market her upcoming online yoga classes.
Planning the Perfect Shoot
We worked together to plan every detail of the shoot—from outfit ideas to locations and poses. I recommended a spot that I love: a beautiful, slightly hidden ruined churchyard in the heart of London. It reminds me of Bali, with its peaceful atmosphere, and is just a few minutes away from the River Thames. It seemed like the perfect spot for Zoe, a London-based yoga teacher, to showcase how you can find peace and balance in one of the busiest city in the world.
We chose an early Friday morning for the session, hoping to capture the quiet magic of London before the city fully wakes up.
The Photoshoot Experience
We began in the serene churchyard, where the remnants of ancient stone walls created a mystical backdrop. Zoe brought along some fantastic outfits, including an earthy-toned leggings and top that blended perfectly with the natural surroundings.
I also recommended some wide-legged yoga trousers—she wore a stunning black pair and a beautiful turquoise blue set that just popped on camera. Isn’t she stunning?
One of the highlights was a creamy dress that Zoe paired with a sage stick, which added a mystical, ceremonial touch to the shoot. The sage perfectly matched her outfit, creating a vibe that harmonised beautifully with the ancient, peaceful setting.
We spent time experimenting with different poses, exploring various corners of the location to capture its mystical energy. The early morning light, softened by the mist, gave the photos a magical, ethereal quality. Zoe’s grace and strength in her practice shone through every frame, making each shot feel special.
After the churchyard, we took a short walk to the River Thames, where we used Tower Bridge as a backdrop for some truly iconic London yoga shots. Although it wasn’t a sunny day, the fog and mist added a special touch to the photos, creating a moody and calm atmosphere.
To wrap up the session, we found a small alleyway leading down to the Thames waterfront. There, we created some moody black-and-white portraits that were simple, yet deeply powerful. Zoe’s energy and focus radiated through the lens, creating images that truly captured her spirit as a yoga teacher.
Connection Through Yoga and Photography
What made this shoot even more special was the connection we built during our time together. We spent the morning not just taking photos, but exchanging stories about yoga, life, and other stories…
By the end of the session, it felt like we had shared something truly meaningful.
I’m thrilled to see Zoe’s website up and running, where she’s already using the images from our shoot! You can check out her beautiful new site here: www.meaningfulyoga.co.uk.
